Wendy Weiss - Cold Calling and Selling Success - The Queen of Cold Calling

Cold Calling in the 21st Century
- The New Rules

Decision-Makers:
You Want Their Attention.
You Want Their Business.
You Need to Get Your Foot in the Door.

You - and every other sales professional on the planet.

Pundits say that cold calling is dead, it’s ‘old-fashioned’ and it doesn’t work in today’s business environment. Besides, everyone hates telemarketers, right?

Yet it’s never been more difficult to “get in the door” to see prospects. Decision-makers are busier than ever and budgets are tighter then ever. Prospects are guarded by gatekeepers who answer their phones and screen their mail. Firewalls and Spam filters trap your emails. If your emails do get through they may very well be deleted unread by gatekeepers or the prospects themselves. Status quo reigns.

Some sales professionals, however, are able to consistently get in front of prospects who want and need and buy their products or services. And some prospectors have consistently been able to reach prospects and gain customers even in today’s business environment. You can be one of them.

Listen to a Special Message
from Wendy Weiss on This Upcoming Cold Calling in the 21st Century Teleclass!

"Our total sales in 2006 increased by 32% over sales for 2005. Then, in 2007 our total sales to date have increased by 29% over the 2006 numbers. We couldn’t have done it without you.”
- Marlene Vogele, Vice President Sales, Gateway EDI

The pundits are right--up to a point. Some cold calling approaches will not work. Here are a few of the old, tired approaches that will not work:

  1. The open the phone book and call anyone hoping someone will say, “yes,” approach
  2. The wing it with your fingers crossed approach
  3. The make 100 dials/day and someone will eventually say, “yes,” approach
  4. The “every call is different so I can’t use a script” approach
  5. The “go through the “no’s” and hang ups until you finally wear the prospect down approach

These approaches are dead. And good riddance.

Cold calling today is direct, targeted and above all it’s a communication skill. And most importantly, it works. In today’s business environment, however, it is imperative to understand the rules, what has changed, what works today and what will simply waste your time.

"In the four years I have been the CEO of ParishPay, we rarely have had someone impact our organization and improve our results as you have.  Last year we had three inside sales staff members and this year we have two.  Our results this year were 128 appointments set by phone in 3 months, as opposed to 45 last year. If anyone can do math, they can see the value of your input in a phone-based sales operation.”
- Andrew Goldberger, CEO, ParishPay/InTuition

“[Wendy] …totally revolutionized the way I speak with prospects. …I needed a new elevator speech and the information from the call helped me to create it. Last evening, I went to a networking event where I used my new elevator speech for the first time. What usually happens for me at an event like this is that I see people’s eyes glaze over and I end up going home frustrated with no leads. Last night, …people actually listened to what I had to say and I went home with four strong leads, one of which has already turned into a request for a proposal.”
- Ed Navis, SPHR
